What is PDF 2023?

PDF2023 is a Design Festival held in Kuching City, in conjunction with World Architecture Day (WAD) 2023 – it takes place over one week and comprises the following key events:

Design Forum 2023 is a one-day design forum where 6 speakers will present their ideas using their projects to this theme’s theme “Re-defining Practice". The target audience are local practitioners, architecture graduates and students, as well as industry partners such as developers, engineers and real estate consultants.

This is a paid event - the entrance fee for students are kept very low; subsidised by the other participants’ fees. We have customarily received a high number of students from our local university, who benefit from the lectures. This year’s speakers are from Australia, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Born in Tainan in 1978 and currently residing and working in Tainan, Taichung, and Taoyuan, Eric Chen holds the PhD degree of Arts from Tainan National University of the Arts, and now he is the full-time assistant professor of Department of Architecture, Chung Yuan Christian University, visiting professor of Department of Architecture, UCSI in Malaysia, and chief architect of ArchiBlur Lab.

Tang starting a career in booming Malaysia in the 90’s upon graduating, was akin to charting the undiscovered seas of mass development and commercialism. He honed the skills in multiple disciplines from planning and urban design through architecture and interior to installations and product design.

Keynote Speakers

DDAP Architect is based in Bali, Indonesia and renowned for their ability to create unique designs solutions which is grounded in the natural environment. Their works often reflects local values, and sensitivity towards the environment. Ketut Dirgantara is the principal at DDAP. After graduating from ITB, he worked as a senior architect at an urban planning consultant in Singapore before starting DDAP in 2015.

KIRK was established in Brisbane, Australia in 1995 as Richard Kirk Architect. The practice has expertise in architecture, urban design, and environmentally sustainable design, with studios in Brisbane, Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur.

Sheng-Feng Lin received his Master Degree in Architecture
from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He is an associate professor in Department of Architecture Shih Chien University and the founder of Atelier Or. His works span the scope of Architecture, Exhibition and installation.

Nishizawaarchitects is a Vietnamese architecture firm led by Shunri Nishizawa. The architect founded the Ho Chi Minh city-based practice in 2015 after working at the offices of Tadao Ando and Vo Trong Nghia.
